Description

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — Franklin officials are looking at plans to restrict parking around town.

The city specified in a recent meeting the plan was to allow for better traffic flow during times that aren't considered special events—things like the market at the Factory.

According to the city, large special events like Pilgrimage Festival already have their own parking plan, but smaller events may not.

Organizers could apply for the restriction near their events, according to city leaders.

Franklin plans to work with the police department to monitor the road and look for violations of the restricted parking.

City Manager Eric Stuckey told News 2 the restrictions would also apply to parking lots: by restricting people from parking there but not reserve it if a parking lot hinders an event.

As more events come to Franklin, city leaders said this could be a great way to manage them efficiently.

"As the arts district is evolving, it could be a market today and something else tomorrow or in the future," one official said during a recent Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting. "It could be anywhere in town, too, that provides this efficient process to not impact adjacent residential neighborhoods.

Stuckey told News 2 events spaces for individual residents could apply for the restriction as well.
