NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — There's a new chance to get your hands dirty in the name of learning more about Nashville history.

The city's Historical Commission is searching for volunteers to help uncover artifacts at different sites across town through the Nashville Public Archaeology Program.

There's plenty of history in Nashville. Some you can see, but some of it is lying beneath our feet, and now it's your turn to find it.

Archaeologist Dr. Adam Fracchia has been discovering artifacts in Nashville for years. He said over time he's found some amazing things that date back decades—even centuries.

He's leading the charges for you to join him in the hunt for more.

Fracchie said the Historical Commission is looking for around 10 people of all ages to come out with them on different excavations.

The group's current project is happening at Fort Negley.

Fracchia said they'll also take about six people into the archaeology lap to teach them about preservation of artifacts and how to connect them with history.

"We want them to see what they can uncover about the history of Nashville and these stories that aren't that far distant from their own lives from people who lived similar lives, and also understand the process of archaeology and how we preserve this heritage," he told News 2.

To become a member of the team, contact Fracchia at [email protected] for more informaiton.
