MADISON, Tenn. (WKRN) — The fate of a neighborhood in Madison is expected to be decided tonight.
Marlin Meadows was established in the 1950s and Metro Councilwoman Tonya Hancock has been working to protect the old nature of the neighborhood.
The neighborhood is located along Neelys Bend Road and above Longfellow Road.
Two years ago, people living in the Marlin Meadows community requested the history of the neighborhood be preserved without pricing residents out of their homes through a conservation district overlay.
The ordinance, which Hancock proposed at the beginning of the year, would put restrictions on development in that area, with the goal of keeping the aesthetic integrity of the neighborhood.
The ordinance passed all three public hearings so tonight Hancock expects it to move forward.
"I'm really excited for the entire community, not only because they wanted to preserve their neighborhood feel and try to retain some of their property values, but also with their recent appraisal process across the city, I think that that could have an enormous impact on this community," she told News 2.
The final vote on the overlay will happen in the Metro Council meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6.
