NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The running community is coming together to honor a woman killed while jogging along Antioch's Mill Creek Greenway last October.
Dr. Alyssa Lotkis' family has started raising money for a memorial bench.
Family and friends remember Lokits as smart, sweet and an avid runner.
"It was just awful," Metro Councilmember John Rutherford told News 2. "We've have crime in the area, but nothing to this magnitude.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said that Lokits was running along the greenway when she was attacked and murdered by Paul Park. Police said he had never met Lokits.
Since the tragedy, Rutherford said the city had installed extra cameras and lighting along the trail.
"I, too, think it would be a great idea to memorialize her," Rutherford added.
The running community and Lokits' loved ones have pushed for a memorial bench along the trail in her honor. Additionally, nonprofit Free to Move has been set up in Lokits' honor.
