CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKRN) -- A man was arrested for multiple charges -- including driving under the influence -- in Christian County Wednesday after he almost hit a sheriff's cruiser, two deputies, and two juveniles during an active investigation, according to officials.
The Christian County Sheriff's Office said the deputies were speaking with the minors on Wednesday, May 7 near a patrol vehicle, which was parked sideways with its emergency lights on in the southbound lane on Butler Road, when a vehicle sped toward them, narrowly missing the cruiser.
The driver reportedly reversed and tried to pass again, but he stopped when authorities ordered him to do so.
Law enforcement said the driver -- identified as 54-year-old Gerald Rothenburger of Hopkinsville -- "appeared visibly impaired, showing signs of intoxication and difficulty performing field sobriety tests."
According to the sheriff's office, Rothenburger was taken into custody and charged with the following offenses:
- First-degree wanton endangerment (law enforcement officer)
- Operating a vehicle under the influence (third offense, aggravated circumstance)
- Reckless driving
Authorities said no injuries were reported as a result of this incident but didn't share any additional details about it.
