LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A La Vergne family experienced every pet owner's worst fear Friday night, but thanks to two law enforcement agencies, their furry friend is back home, safe and sound.
According to the La Vergne Police Department, the family's beloved Golden Doodle -- "a companion, a source of joy, and a true part of their home" -- was stolen from their yard on Friday, Aug. 1.
Authorities responded to the scene as soon as they got the call just after 9 p.m. The officers listened, investigated, and followed every lead because, in the words of LVPD, "when something or someone you love is taken from you, it's not 'just a case.' It's personal."
The determined efforts of La Vergne patrol officers reportedly led to the suspect's arrest. Meanwhile, by working with the Franklin Police Department, the LVPD said authorities found the dog unharmed and reunited it with its family.
"Moments like this remind us why we wear the badge. It’s not always about the big headlines, sometimes it’s about doing everything we can to bring peace back to a family, even if that peace has four paws and a wagging tail," the LVPD wrote on Facebook. "To the community: We’re here for you. To the family: We’re so glad your pup is home. To anyone else who thinks it’s okay to take what doesn’t belong to you, think again."
No additional details have been released about this alleged dog-napping, including the identity of the suspect who was taken into custody.
