WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Bug, the cocker spaniel-poodle mix, was found by Wilson County animal control officers, who said she was shot two times.
A veterinarian had to amputate her front right leg, and now investigators are looking for the shooter who could face animal cruelty charges.
Bug is learning to walk again.
"She is super sweet and such a fighter," Kinsey Frazier with Wilson County Animal Control said. "She's been doing great after the procedure she had done."
Wilson County Animal Control officials said they got the call about the injured dog over the weekend.
"At first thought maybe she got attacked by dogs, but after we took her to the vet, we saw she had been shot twice," Frazier said.
After they rescued her along Oak Grove Road near Lebanon, a vet had to amputate her front right leg.
"It is a little house dog," Wilson County Animal Control director Steve Gatlin said. "A person can't claim it was chasing a cow or was vicious."
Now, investigators want to know who shot the 2-year-old pup.
Officers said they're looking at evidence and hoping neighbors have video.
As soon as Bug heals from her surgery, she'll likely be put up for adoption.
Animal control officials said country singer Gretchen Wilson helped pay for the veterinarian bills.
