NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Cheekwood Estate and Garden announced plans for a new parking pavilion and plaza at the 55-acre historic estate.
Cheekwood currently has 86 parking spots on its property, which makes parking a challenge for visitors to the popular attraction.
The estate had an agreement with Metro Parks that allowed them to use land owned by the Parks for regular and overflow parking. In March 2025, Metro Parks extended this agreement to 2027 but took away one of the lots, which held about 160 parking spaces.
According to a release, the facility will provide parking for 750 vehicles, and include several EV charging stations, an easy rideshare drop-off and pick-up area, a new ticketing center, an expansive 28,000 square-foot green roof, new gardens and a sustainable rainwater harvesting system.
Cheekwood estimates the project to cost $25 million, and are working to complete construction in 2027 in accordance with the end of its agreement with Metro Parks.
“We average around 400,000 visitors a year. That changes year-to-year; last year we had about 380,000. Just like Nashville has grown, our attendance has grown. I think it’s in line with what institutions across the city have seen as more people come to Nashville and visit Nashville,” explained Cheekwood External Relations Manager Emily Luxen. “It’s wonderful to have them come visit us, but it comes with challenges when it comes to finding places to park.”
Cheekwood has installed a temporary parking lot and is encouraging people to carpool and ride share to the estate.
