NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward is one of the seven team captains for the upcoming season.

Ward is the first Titans rookie to be named team captain since Marcus Mariota in 2015.

"Cam has definitely earned it," Titans head coach Brian Callahan said. "The leadership he's shown over the course of his time here from the offseason to training camp. Those guys have a lot of respect for him. Traditionally, your quarterback tends to be a captain. That's just sort of how it works. But I do think all of the qualities he has shown as a leader are very much deserving of the captain C."

The Titans drafted Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft with the hope that he could change the culture and be the face of the franchise for years to come.

"It's not surprising just by the type of person he is," Titans running back Tony Pollard said. "He's a natural leader the way he goes about his business. He's the first guy in the building every day."

From 5 a.m. film sessions to leading the team on the field, Ward has already earned the respect of his teammates.

"He came in like it was his team," Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley said. "It was a no-brainer that he was going to get picked. He breaks the huddle down. He talks to the whole team. He's easily a leader on this team."

Ward's first test comes in the season opener on the road against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 7.
