COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WKRN) — An 18-year-old was recovered from the Duck River Tuesday morning in Columbia, officials said.
According to the Columbia Police Department, first responders were sent to the Duck River near the Highway 31 bridge at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, to respond to reports of a deceased individual in the water.
When emergency personnel arrived, they reportedly removed the person and confirmed he was deceased. Officials only identified the person as an 18-year-old from Columbia, adding that his family has been notified.
"The Columbia Police Department and City of Columbia extends its thoughts and prayers to the family of the involved individual," wrote the police department in a post about the death.
Authorities said an investigation is underway and additional details will not be released at this time.
