MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Arkansas State Police arrested four men accused of trying to steal an ATM Friday morning from a Middle Tennessee gas station, where a fifth suspect was shot and killed by a customer.

The Murfreesboro Police Department initially reported three suspects backed a stolen pickup truck to the 7-Eleven Exxon on East Northfield Boulevard around 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1 and broke a window with a sledgehammer before trying to pull the ATM from its base with a guy wire. An armed customer inside the store reportedly opened fire, hitting one of the would-be thieves.

Officials identified the suspect who died at the scene as 23-year-old Tyrese Walder. Authorities said they interviewed the customer who shot Walder and released him pending further investigation.

Law enforcement previously said the two remaining suspects fled the scene, abandoned the stolen truck at a nearby apartment complex, and escaped in a separate vehicle. However, on Saturday, Aug. 2, police announced four suspects in the attempted ATM theft had been apprehended in another state.

According to officials, with help from license plate recognition cameras, analysts from MPD's Real Time Crime Center identified the suspects' getaway vehicle. Then, detectives issued a nationwide alert for the SUV.

Authorities said Arkansas State Police stopped the vehicle and took the four men into custody Friday, adding that the suspects were apparently heading home to Texas.

As of Saturday, the four men are reportedly awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

No additional details have been released about the circumstances surrounding Friday's arrests in Arkansas or the charges the suspects face in Tennessee.
