NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Three teenagers -- two of whom were previously charged in connection with a 2023 shooting -- were taken into custody and a gun was recovered as a result of an investigation by Nashville detectives Saturday afternoon.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, detectives initially saw a stolen gray Acura MDX speed out of the 7-Eleven in the 300 block of White Bridge Road, so they followed the SUV until additional units arrived.
Officials said the vehicle traveled north on Briley Parkway and exited onto Ashland City Highway, which is where the suspects became aware of the law enforcement presence. They reportedly started driving recklessly at excessive speeds while a police helicopter passed information on to the ground units.
Authorities said the suspects briefly stopped at an apartment complex in the 3900 block of Clarksville Pike and then drove off, but officers successfully deployed spike strips. The stolen SUV eventually stopped on E Fairview Drive, where all three teens allegedly ran off, sparking a brief pursuit before the "auto theft/burglary suspects" were taken into custody.
According to law enforcement, the 17-year-old driver tossed a 9mm handgun on the ground as he fled. In addition, detectives found a wallet in the SUV that had been reported stolen after an auto burglary in the 3000 block of Charlotte Avenue on Thursday, June 5.
As for the Acura, police said it had been reported stolen between the late night hours on Wednesday, June 4 and the following morning from a Rice Road apartment complex in South Nashville.
Officials said both 17-year-old boys are charged in Juvenile Court with vehicle theft and evading arrest, but the driver is also charged with juvenile handgun possession.
Authorities said that both of these teens were previously arrested for their involvement in an August 2023 shooting inside the Bordeaux Branch of the Nashville Public Library, which left a 14-year-old boy injured. One boy was reportedly charged with aggravated assault and the other was charged with attempted homicide.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Donald King is being held on a $25,000 bond at the Downtown Detention Center, charged with felony vehicle theft (worth at least $2,500 but less than $10,000), misdemeanor evading arrest, and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement said the Vehicle Crimes detectives' investigation is still ongoing.
