NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Three people are believed to have been injured by "celebratory" gunfire in downtown Nashville following the Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th fireworks display, according to officials.

The Metro Nashville Police Department said the three people were located in separate areas of downtown, and were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-critical injuries.

Officers were first called after a 60-year-old man was struck and wounded in the foot. Officials said it is unclear where he was located when he was injured.

Then, a 58-year-old woman was struck in the chest near the intersection of 7th Avenue and Broadway while she was seated on a staircase waiting for a shuttle.

A 26-year-old woman was then wounded in the face while entering a rideshare vehicle near 1st Avenue and Demonbreun Street. She reportedly suffered an injury to the bridge of her nose and upper lip.

A statement from MNPD said in part, "The police department strongly cautions against celebratory gunfire, which can be inherently dangerous when projectiles, even if fired into the air, fall toward the ground in populated areas."

The source of the gunfire remains under investigation.
