Description
WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two people charged in connection with a deadly jet ski crash on Old Hickory Lake last year pleaded guilty to felony reckless homicide this week.
On July 16, 2024, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency responded to reports about a two-vessel collision on Old Hickory Lake around 5 p.m. Though lifesaving measures were performed on 10-year-old Jack Gear at the scene and he was taken to Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital for treatment, he died from his injuries.
In March, News 2 obtained an indictment charging Joshua Kennington and Savannah Remington for their connection with the deadly crash — including vehicle homicide by recklessness, safe speed, risk of collision and head-on situation.
According to Wilson County court documents obtained by News 2, Kennington pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and will face a sentence of two years of supervised probation.
Remington also pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and faces a sentence of two years of supervised probation. Additionally, Remington must undergo mandatory counseling and write a letter apologizing about the crash and addressing her personal responsibility as well as her position on the role of the Boy Scouts organization in the incident.
Last September, Gear's parents filed a lawsuit against the Middle Tennessee Boy Scouts of America alleging that the organization failed to adequately train employees about safe operations of a personal watercraft.
The parents were seeking $10 million from the Middle Tennessee Council's Boy Scouts of America to "recover damages for Jack's injuries and wrongful death."
