NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 19-year-old Nashville man was killed late Sunday night after losing control of his motorcycle on Interstate 40.
It was just three days after earning his motorcycle license, according to Metro Nashville police.
The crash happened just before midnight near the Charlotte Pike exit. Christian Jordan was riding a BMW motorcycle westbound when the bike entered a high-speed wobble, causing him to lose control and crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said there were no signs of impairment.
Davidson County continues to lead the state in overall motorcycle crash rates, according to the Tennessee Highway Safety Office. Data from the agency shows 2,444 motorcycle crashes across Tennessee from January 2024 through September 2024, including 151 fatalities. So far this year, about 2,398 crashes and 135 fatalities have been reported.
At Vanderbilt University Medical Center, trauma surgeons treated 349 motorcycle crash victims last year. Dr. Stephen Gadomski, a general surgeon at VUMC, said it is something he sees often.
"Your life can change in a split second with one of these accidents," Dr. Gadomski said. "At the end of the day, a motorcycle is a more dangerous form of transportation, and extra precautions are absolutely necessary."
He said a form of protective gear often means the difference between a close call and a catastrophic injury.
"I can't emphasize enough the importance of wearing a helmet," he said. "Closed head injuries, traumatic brain injuries can be life-altering and really impact somebody's ability to thrive and enjoy."
