PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A collision between two cars in Putnam County Wednesday afternoon left one person dead and three people -- including two children -- injured, according to officials.
The incident was reported shortly after 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7 on U.S. Highway 70 North near West Gate Drive.
Tennessee Highway Patrol said a 2014 Ford Focus was traveling east while a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling west, but then the Ford crossed the center line and hit the Chrysler head-on. The Ford reportedly went off the right side of the road and stopped while the Chrysler veered off the right side of the road, overturned, and came to rest on its driver side, partially blocking the westbound lane.
The driver of the Ford -- identified by authorities as 20-year-old Jose Vasquez Castro of Tennessee -- was not wearing his seatbelt and died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, THP said the 31-year-old Tennessee woman driving the Chrysler, along with her 4-year-old and 8-year-old passengers, were all properly restrained but still injured in the crash. There is no word on their current conditions at this time.
No charges have been filed in connection with this incident, according to law enforcement.
