NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — It's almost summertime for many Middle Tennessee students. For some, that means less access to meals normally provided by schools. However, one nonprofit is stepping up to make sure those children's bellies are full.

For the first time, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee will provide families with seven-day meal packs to make sure kids are fed while they are out of school. The program starts this Saturday, and there are 11 meal distribution sites across the mid-state, including two in North Nashville and five in Clarksville. Each meal pack will include breakfast, lunch and dinner for seven days, and can be picked up each week until Aug. 2.

The community program director for YMCA, Will Albritton, said the program is an extension of the care the organization provides for area kids during the school year.

"Parents just simply need to show up; grandparents can show up as long as we have the child's name and date of birth or grade in the school, then that's all we need," Albritton said. "So for families that have multiple children, anyone under the age of 18 is eligible for a food box as long as we have that information."
