NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro leaders have provided an update about the downtown branch of the Nashville Public Library and parking garage.
Early Tuesday morning, the branch's parking garage partially collapsed after a fire. On Friday, the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure — which owns the garage — said that they're assessing the extent of the structural damage at the site.
The Nashville Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire, though no foul play is suspected at this time. Anyone who had vehicles or other property in the garage at the time of the fire should call 615-352-0415 ext. 131 or fill out this form.
As for the library itself, Metro Councilmember Jacob Kupin, whose district includes the downtown branch, said that the library would be closed through July 7. Staff with the Nashville Public Library are working to redirect all books and other materials that were on hold for patron pickup to the Looby Branch Library. The NPL has also encouraged patrons to return books and materials to other library locations.
NDOT and the Nashville Downtown Partnership have provided alternative places to park until the garage is reopened and people have been encouraged to use the 4th and Commerce Street Garage at 147 4th Avenue North. You can follow this link for a full list and interactive map of garages, surface lots and accessible parking. If you work downtown, you could qualify for a parking deal with PMC.
