NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An undercover operation by Metro Police detectives led to the arrest of a teen armed robbery suspect in West Nashville.
According to arrest documents, undercover officers were on patrol Tuesday near Subway on Old Hickory Boulevard in response to a series of armed robberies at the restaurant.
Officials said a silver sedan driven by 19-year-old Keshawn Johnson stopped in a nearby apartment complex parking lot and he exited. Detectives reported that Johnson walked around the back of the building wearing all black clothing and a ski mask as he waited for the customers inside to leave.
Johnson was captured on surveillance video entering the store, pointing a pistol at a victim and demanding money. When the cashier attempted to stall the robbery, he reportedly grabbed the cash from over the counter and fled.
A Metro Police helicopter followed the silver sedan, which was registered to Johnson, until detectives performed a "tactical takedown" in a parking lot on Clarksville Pike. Inside the car, authorities found cash, a ski mask and a loaded pistol.
Court documents said during an interview with detectives Johnson admitted to taking the money.
He was charged with aggravated robbery and booked into Metro jail on a $50,000 bond.
