Springfield Fire Department Deploys Fire Blanket on Stubborn Car Fire

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (Smokey Barn News) — A dramatic vehicle fire broke out this morning at Travis Price Park in Springfield, prompting swift responses from the Springfield Fire Department, Springfield Police Department, and Robertson County Emergency Management Agency. When firefighters arrived, the car was fully engulfed in flames, the first call coming into 911 at 7:08 AM.

The fire was so intense that crews initially used two fire extinguishers, but the blaze refused to subside. They then attacked it with a fire hose until the truck ran out of water. After that, they connected to a local fire hydrant and continued to douse the flames, but even that wasn’t enough. Although it was initially suspected to be an electric vehicle, the car was a gas-powered engine. Officials at the scene told Smokey Barn News that the tires popped, sinking the vehicle to the ground, making access to the fire challenging.

In a dramatic moment, a firefighter was seen crouched near a tire, trying to suppress the blaze, as flames briefly surged around him. Fortunately, he was protected by his gear. After exhausting traditional methods, the department turned to a Bridgehill Fire Blanket—a tool they had never used before. According to the fire chief, once deployed, the blanket smothered the flames, and despite some smoldering underneath, it ultimately put the fire out.

The car belonged to a teenage girl, a junior at Springfield High School. She was driving to school when she smelled smoke, pulled over in the park, opened the door, and realized that her car was on fire. Within seconds, her car was engulfed in flames. Thankfully, she was unharmed, but her vehicle was a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Chosen Towing & Recovery recovered the vehicle.
