SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) — Relief from door-to-door solicitors is now in Smyrna.
The town council began looking at ways to address solicitors in early spring. Now, they have passed the "No Solicitation List." In just a 24-hour span, approximately 1,300 households have reportedly signed up for the list.
"I think this is exactly what should happen in local government," said Smyrna Mayor Mary Esther Reed. "If someone doesn't want a solicitor at their home, they have the opportunity to sign up."
In order to solicit in Smyrna, a business must first apply for a permit. Reed said this ordinance only applies for solicitors who are permitted through the Town of Smyrna.
She stressed that this doesn't apply for solicitors without a permit. For example, charitable solicitors, canvassing politicians, school sales, religious organizations or anyone invited to your property, are not prohibited.
If you would like to join the list, follow this link. Once you sign-up, you will then need to download and print an official "no solicitation" sticker and put it on a door or window.
Residents can also report solicitors who are in violation of the list with a solicitation violation report.
