HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Some Sumner County residents are sad following the demolition of an entertainment venue that was a longtime staple in the community.

On Dec. 9, 2023, several Hendersonville businesses were damaged or destroyed by a deadly tornado outbreak. One of those businesses, Big Play, had a partial roof collapse.

"Just disappointment — Nashville is changing over the times," resident Jamie Wilson said. "That's one of the good times that we did have, just coming here and doing this and having a good time here."

Wilson not only grew up going to Big Play with his friends, but he's also attended the birthday parties of his friend's children. As a father, he said he's a little upset that his sons won't be able to experience the venue.

Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Barry Young, spoke about the resilience many affected business owners have shown. While some businesses like Big Play weren't able to recover from the storm damage, other businesses did.

"It's a transition. It's a street in transition, basically," Young said. "Repairs are being made, though; it's just taking a long time for some."

Among those new businesses, Young said, would be an Advance Auto Parts on East Main Street. A Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q, Rio Bravo Mexican Grill, Fast Pace Health and Chick-Fil-A are also coming to the city.

Young believes Hendersonville will only continue to rebound from the tornado damage and is extremely grateful that no one lost their life that day.
