NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Reality TV star Todd Chrisley spoke at a press conference in Nashville Friday after he and his wife, Julie Chrisley, were pardoned by President Donald Trump.
The stars of the long-running TV series "Chrisley Knows Best" were convicted of federal charges in 2022, including bank fraud and tax evasion. Todd was initially sentenced to serve 12 years, but his sentence was later reduced by two years, and Julie was sentenced to seven years before her sentence was shortened by 14 months.
On Friday, May 30, Todd addressed the media for the first time since Trump's pardon. Julie was not in attendance at the event, but Todd and his daughter, Savannah Chrisley, took questions from reporters.
Savannah started out by thanking the Trump administration, saying she and her dad called the president when she picked Todd up from prison on Wednesday, May 28.
When reporters asked if Todd had any remorse for the actions that led to the conviction, he said he was not remorseful for something he did not do. Todd said he will continue to expose the injustices throughout the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
"As bad as this experience has been, there's also been a lot of blessings to come from it. I have met some wonderful men, I have listened to some horrific stories about things that have gone on in our system, and whether you believe it or not, because I was you at some point, even though this pardon has happened, I still was convicted of something that I did not do," Todd said.
Todd said he’s thankful for his daughter, who has been fighting for her parents' release in Washington, D.C.
Savannah said this is the one thing she wants the public to know about her battle: "People think, 'Oh you’re a celebrity, you’re white, you have money' that we got an upper hand, and we didn’t. I had to fight, and I was relentless and that’s how it happened. Finally, people listened."
Savannah described the reunion with her father when he was released from prison: "When he walked out, it was just such an overwhelming feeling because the last time I was there, I was dropping him off and watching him walk away, so I think watching him walk towards me, I was an absolute disaster."
"I don’t even know that I felt like it was real at that moment, and I woke up the first morning and I was looking around, I'm like, 'This is really real. I’m home,'" Todd said.
A recent report said an untitled Chrisley project has been greenlit for Lifetime. Savannah said filming started right back up the night Todd and Julie got home. In this new series, viewers should expect to see parts of the trial, the family reunion, and how the Chrisleys move forward.
According to Savannah, this show will "set the record straight."
