NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- After nearly two decades of sitting silent, Councilwoman Joy Styles hopes to move forward with plans to breathe new life into the Starwood Amphitheatre.
The venue leaves behind fond memories for Nashville natives.
“My first memory, I was a teenager, I was in high school and my friends and I went to Starwood to attend an NSYNC concert, they had tickets I did not, and I was lucky enough to get in for free with a radio promotion,” said local Courtney Gray.
Despite attempts to restore the former gem, previous plans have fallen through. However, Styles told News 2 Thursday evening that plans are finally coming together.
“The venue is set. I've already spoken to an operator and [I'm] really excited because they do it in several cities across the country and so this will be our first time to have a legit performance space, but also a space where musicians can rehearse,” Styles said. “Right now, no one can rehearse here unless you're rehearsing in your home. But a professional rehearsal space is actually on the other side of town.”
In addition to the amphitheater, area renderings also highlight a dog park, residential space, retail, and a tribute to the past.
“The Starwood Walking Trail that's going to go around the outside of the 65 acres, there're going to be different moments where you can revisit the past,” Styles detailed. “So, we'll have pictures of different concerts, we're going to get feedback from people, so the signs will also have some quotations of memories that they have from that time. And then having the outdoor amphitheater that will be able to have a couple hundred people on the lawn, there's your throwback moment.”

Local residents told News 2 it was important for them to meet the developer and to have their voice included as plans are formed. Gray was optimistic for the project overall.
“Man, we just want to make sure nobody forgot about that space, so this is exciting to hear,” Gray said. “I live close, again, this might be an area I can walk to, it's that close to me, so I'm looking forward to taking advantage of anything new that is developed that is just a safe, fun place to be.”
Styles told News 2 she believed the project would take roughly three to four years. If approved, developers could begin construction as soon as next year.
