Barrie Lynn Hensley

September 18, 1946 — December 5, 2025

White House, TN

Barrie Lynn Hensley, age 79, a beloved man whose laughter could light up any room, passed away on December 5, 2025, in Gallatin, TN, leaving behind a legacy steeped in courage, wit, and a spirit of generosity. Born on September 18, 1946, in Muncie, IN, Barrie’s journey through life mirrored the noble service he rendered to his country, as he devoted 27 proud years to the US Army, ultimately achieving the esteemed rank of E-5 Sargent. His military career was not just a job; it was a badge of honor that he wore with immense pride.

Barrie was a man of many dimensions. With a personality that combined humor and kindness, he was the quintessential gentleman: a funny, goofy guy who would give you the shirt off his back, ensuring those around him felt embraced by his warm-hearted nature. He had a remarkable gift for conversation—no topic was too complex or trivial for him. Whether delving into the intricate mechanics of automobiles or engaging in discussions about military history, Barrie’s intelligence shone brightly, captivating everyone fortunate enough to share in his insights.

Beyond his military service, Barrie was a passionate aficionado of literature and cars. His interests were boundless; he possessed a vast reservoir of knowledge on both subjects that was rivaled only by his enthusiasm. A car enthusiast at heart, he could identify a vehicle’s make and model at a glance, sharing fascinating tidbits about engine specifications with an infectious zest. He would even display his creative side by building the model cars he would talk about. In quieter moments, he reveled in reading military novels, allowing the narratives to take him on voyages through time and valor. Poetry flowed from his pen, revealing a contemplative side to a man so often characterized by his boisterous laughter and infectious smile.

Barrie is preceded in death by his parents John and Bonnie Hensley, and stepson Bobby Breeden.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Karen Fuqua Hensley, his stepdaughters; Deanna Hampton, Rebekah (Rick) Napier, and Rachel Lasley, and his son David Sean. He is also survived by his step grandchildren Kara, Michael, Kristin, Steven, Matthew, Kelsi, Zackary, and Tori, as well as 11 great-grandchildren. His sister Paula Davis also survives him, along with his nieces, Kim, Wendy, Penny, and Brandy. He also leaves behind his beloved grand-dog Lylah, “his favorite pooch.”

As we remember Barrie Lynn Hensley, let us celebrate not just the milestones of his life but the essence of who he was: a remarkable individual who never met a stranger, whose kindness knew no bounds, and whose laughter will echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
