NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — So far, the National Weather Service has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down during Tuesday's severe weather event across the mid-state.
The first tornado confirmed by the agency was an EF0 that started at 5:08 p.m. along 101st Airborne Division Road in northern Clarksville. With a path 9.41 miles long and about 100 yards wide, the NWS said that this tornado caused minor tree damage and uprooted tree tops near Britton Springs Road and Norris Drive and had a peak wind speed of 75 miles per hour.
It continued northeast, crossing Highway 41A and continued to damage trees as it went. This tornado lifted north of West Creek Middle School and south of Tiny Town Road, the NWS added.
Minutes later, the NWS confirmed that another tornado touched down in southern Clarksville. Specifically, this EF0 tornado touched down at 5:25 p.m. In its 3.21 mile-long, 200-yard wide path, several trees leaned and were felled by the twister's winds — which reportedly peaked at 85 miles per hour. The tornado moved to the northeast and lifted prior to reaching Trough Springs Road and Interstate 24.
The final tornado confirmed by the NWS Wednesday was confirmed in southern Cumberland County. The EF1 reportedly had maximum wind speeds of 105 miles per hour. Timber damage and minor structural damage to homes were reported in the tornado's 4.97 mile long path. The agency reported that this tornado's maximum path width was 0 yards wide.
As the Cumberland County storm moved northeast, it damaged the roofs of two homes within the Big Lick area, continuing to damage both trees and power lines along Rhea Road until it lifted near the intersection of Rhea Road and Old State Highway 28.
The agency said these tornado reports were preliminary and could be subject to change following a final review. Additional damage assessments will happen across the mid-state to see if there were any additional tornadoes as part of Tuesday's severe weather event.
