MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — The heat of summer has set in and it's been a sweltering season, which can pose issues for the elderly and people with young children. A local Murfreesboro man has stepped in to help cool people down.

Dwight Ogleton lives a simple life in a more rural part of Murfreesboro, but he steps up in a big way for his neighbors every summer, collecting and handing out box fans for people who need a way to get a break from the heat.

Ogleton has been doing this since the 1990s, he told News 2, and it's become a popular thing.

When he spoke with News 2 Friday, he'd already fielded three calls from people wanting to donate fans for him to distribute.

Ogleton told News 2 he recognizes the struggle seniors and families with young children face when it comes to the dog days of summer, especially since they are more vulnerable during days of extreme heat.

He doesn't do it for the recognition, though—only the love of his neighbors.

The number of people he's been able to help throughout the years is countless, he told News 2.

"I couldn't tell you exactly, but I can say we've been able to help a great deal of people, especially the elderly, to keep them cool," Ogleton told News 2.

If you'd like to donate a box fan for Ogletree to hand out, you can drop them off at his home at 3882 Sulphur Springs Rd. Be sure to give him a call at 615-487-9670 to let him know you'd like to help, though.
