NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville man died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Monday night after he fell into the street and was hit by a vehicle.
According to a news release from the Metro Nashville Police Department, the 73-year-old man was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 10th Avenue North.
Police said that preliminary investigation revealed the man was walking westbound on the sidewalk of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 5:40 p.m. when he stumbled at the southeast corner of the 10th Avenue North intersection and fell into the roadway.
According to the MNPD, a Lexus SUV began making a right turn from 10th Avenue North around the same time that the man fell, and the SUV hit the man.
Authorities said the Lexus driver remained at the scene, and the 73-year-old was taken to VUMC where he died.
Police said they are working to notify the 73-year-old man's next of kin.
