NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department announced the arrest of a man who allegedly fled from detectives in a stolen car.
MNPD detectives reportedly saw a white Infiniti Q50 with a fake temporary tag and a broken sunroof near Georgia Court Wednesday night. Police discovered the car had been stolen outside of Davidson County on June 11. When MNPD detectives tried to initiate a traffic stop, they said 25-year-old Jonathan Mercer fled down 14th Avenue North "at a high rate of speed."
As Mercer approached the Church Street intersection, the MNPD said he ran a red light and struck another vehicle. At that point, Mercer reportedly got out of the car and started to run from detectives; he was taken into custody shortly thereafter.
Police said they discovered a second temporary tag underneath the fake tag, which came back to a Kia Rio. Mercer has been charged with aggravated reckless driving, theft of property, resisting arrest and both misdemeanor and felony evading arrest among other charges.
The other driver was treated by medics at the scene for his injuries. His current condition was not immediately released.
