ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man faces several felony charges after he allegedly threatened to kill a detective following an assault that left a woman seriously injured in Antioch, officials said.
According to arrest documents, officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department were sent to a Burger King in the 5300 block of Hickory Hollow Pike on Wednesday, June 4 after a woman called police to report that she had been assaulted.
When police arrived, the woman reportedly appeared disoriented and confused. Officials said she was able to identify the suspect as Michael Barnett, adding that he had facial tattoos, but suffered from a seizure before she could provide any additional information.
The woman was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition, per court documents.
Shortly after responding to the Burger King, authorities reported an employee at Southeast Public Library called police after overhearing a man talking about threatening and beating his girlfriend.
While at the library, officers said they found 42-year-old Michael Barnett, who matched the description provided by the victim. Surveillance video from a neighboring business along Hickory Hollow Lane reportedly showed Barnett assaulting the woman before running away.
During an interview with a detective, Barnett allegedly threatened to burn down the detective's house and stated he would hire someone to kill the detective. In addition, officials said he was aware of the victim's head injury and stated, "I'm going to kill her next time I see her."
Barnett was charged attempted criminal homicide, being a fugitive from justice and retaliation for past action. He is being held in Metro Jail on a $350,000 bond.
According to an arrest report, Barnett had an active "NCIC hit" from Mississippi for a full extradition warrant. The Mississippi Department of Corrections confirmed they would extradite the 42-year-old.
No additional details were released.
