NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man reportedly shot at a Metro Nashville Police Department detective on Friday afternoon on Skip Jack Drive.
According to the MNPD, the detective, who serves on the department's TITANS Unit, was on his break in an unmarked police vehicle when 52-year-old Otis Beach — a previously convicted felon — pulled up beside him in a Hyundai Genesis. The detective was wearing plain clothes at the time of the incident.
Officials said Beach yelled at the detective and pointed a handgun in his direction. The detective then quickly drove off to get away from the Hyundai Genesis.
Beach reportedly fired three shots and hit the detective's vehicle, according to the MNPD.
Police said the detective was not injured.
Other detectives were in the area and quickly located Beach at his home on the 200 block of Centreboard Court. Beach was taken into custody, and detectives recovered a 9-millimeter handgun and a cartridge casing from inside the Hyundai Genesis he was reportedly driving, according to the MNPD.
Police later located two more cartridge casings at the shooting scene, officials said.
According to the MNPD, Beach told detectives he fired the shots but did not know the victim was an officer.
Beach is in jail on a $300,000 bond, and the investigation remains active, officials said.
