Description

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Thousands of people will come together this weekend to walk with a purpose for the annual Greater Nashville Heart Walk.

It's a chance to get some exercise but also offers and educational experience.

In Middle Tennessee the number one cause of death is heart disease, but it is preventable. Step by step, the American Heart Association is working to save lives.

The Heart Walk and Fall Festival will take place this Saturday at GEODIS Park. The festivities begin at 8 a.m., and the walk steps off at 9:30 a.m.

Survivors of heart disease will even have their own walk where they will be honored by the Heart Association. It is a shorter route to accommodate any lingering symptoms they may have.

Of course, there's more than just the walk. During the event, the Heart Association will be teaching people CPR and all about healthy lifestyle choices to help prevent heart disease.

AHA Nashville Executive Director Annie Thornhill told News 2 she hopes the people walk away with more confidence on how to live a healthier lifestyle.

"We want people to take away a sense of heart health and belonging," she said. "We feel really tied and a part of the Nashville family and we want people to feel the same way about the Heart Association."

Registration is not required to attend the walk, according to Thornhill. Just show up at GEODIS Park, 501 Benton Ave.
