LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Several people evacuated from a shopping center Monday night after a fire broke out at a tobacco shop in La Vergne.
Crews were called at 9:06 p.m. after smoke was seen coming from Tobacco Brew and Chew on Murfreesboro Road. Officials said they responded approximately two minutes later, and had the fire under control within 10 minutes.
Several people in the adjacent Little Caesars and one person from the tobacco store evacuated before firefighters arrived.
The response included 16 La Vergne Fire Department crew members, several command staff members, four suppression units and a truck. The crew was also assisted by the Smyrna Fire Department and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services.
In a press release, Battalion Chief Cody Wilson said, “There is heavy smoke damage to the tobacco store but the full extent of the damage won’t be known until investigations are complete.”
The fire is under investigation by La Vergne Fire Marshal Curtis Brinkley and a Rutherford County Fire Department investigator.
