Dog Burned, Barn Destroyed in Cross Plains Fire Saturday Morning

CROSS PLAINS, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A dog was burned, and another was missing after a barn egnited Saturday morning.  Officials say the fire was caused by a heat lamp, and the structure was a total loss. The barn is located in the 6800 block of Bethlehem Road, the first call to 911 came in at 8:59 am p.m.

According to Cross Plains Fire Chief Tommy Jackson, two dogs were inside the structure when the fire started. One of the dogs managed to get out on its own but suffered burns to its face and back. The second dog was not located at the time firefighters were on scene, though witnesses believed it may have escaped.

Investigators believe the blaze was sparked by a heat lamp that had been set up inside the barn. Jackson said callers who reported the fire indicated the heat lamp was in the area where the flames appeared to originate.

The barn also contained a pickup truck and two lawn mowers that were used for a lawn care business. All of that equipment was destroyed in the fire.

A nearby house did not catch fire, but the exterior siding was damaged by the intense heat and the siding was partially melted. There was no direct fire damage to the home itself, and no injuries (other than the dog) were reported.

The injured dog was transported to the Robertson County Animal Clinic for treatment. Chief Jackson said he expects the animal to survive, despite significant burns to its face.

Fire crews from Cross Plains and Orlinda responded to the scene, along with Robertson County EMS.
