SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Law enforcement praised a boy for his bravery after he helped foil a home burglary in Sumner County Friday morning and then provided information that led to a man's arrest.
According to the Sumner County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a 911 call about a burglary in progress along Garrison Branch Road on Friday, June 6. The caller reported an unknown man had entered the family's home and started rummaging through the kitchen cabinets.
Officials said the suspect was interrupted after a young child found him in the kitchen. The kid ran to his bedroom for safety, prompting the man to flee out the front door.
"Thanks to the child’s quick thinking and detailed description, deputies and detectives were able to identify a suspect within the hour," the sheriff's office wrote on social media.
Authorities said they found the man and brought him in for questioning, during which time he confessed to the burglary. In addition, deputies reportedly discovered the suspect had stolen cell phones in his possession that were tied to a separate incident.
"We’re incredibly proud of this young man’s bravery," Chief Deputy Tommy Greer stated. "His actions helped lead to a quick resolution, and helped our deputies and detectives take a dangerous individual off the streets."
No additional details were released about this incident, including the identity of the suspect or the charges he faces.
