NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A car wash on the Percy Priest Peninsula has been torn down, and a new development is planned in its place.
For years, the car wash on Anderson Road was a source of debate for the community.
"We are the dumping ground of Davidson County, and it has got to stop," Percy Priest Peninsula resident Annette Filippone said.
"It was basically a nonfunctional car wash because it was broken more often than it worked, and with it being broken all the time, it became a haven for criminal activity," Percy Priest Peninsula resident Michele Vetter explained.
Now, it has been torn down, and approved plans show a new mixed-use building being built in its place.
"Our community on the peninsula wanted something done with the car wash," Vetter said. "We either wanted it to be functional and working, or we wanted something else put here."
The development plan calls for 7,500 square feet of office, retail, personal care services, restaurant and convenience market space. However, it specifically excludes liquor or vape stores.
"100% that is a win," Filippone said. "We already have one. We have a vape shop. We have a liquor store. We are good."
The plans also mention the addition of a sidewalk along the complex.
"If they put sidewalks around that area, that is more than what is there now," Filippone expressed.
Still, neighbors have questions about what this development means for them.
"Now I am waiting to see what exactly is going on in there," Filippone said. "We don't need just any old thing to come in there. We need quality entrepreneurs and business folks."
"And the lot, I don't know how it is going to accommodate that big of a building," Vetter said.
Safety and property upkeep are all top concerns.
"We are concerned about traffic, about egress, all of these things, what it is going to look like, and we just don't have answers to those questions," Vetter expressed. "There are a lot of questions that we as a community have while metro planning and zoning just continues to push forward with what feels to be little account or little regard for the thoughts, feelings or impact of the people in this neighborhood."
No construction timeline has been set yet.
"I am not opposed to having more business and attracting more business to our area, but let's make it the right kind of business," Filippone concluded.
News 2 reached out to the owners of the property for comment, but as of publication, there has been no response.
