NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — As thousands of students across Middle Tennessee get ready to return to the classroom, Wellpoint Tennessee hosted a "Back to School Bash" Saturday.
Wellpoint Tennessee said hundreds of people showed up in Nashville, where families had access to free supplies and resources to get ready for the school year.
Attendees could pick up backpacks full of learning tools, and even get haircuts, health screenings, and guidance from local mental health providers.
"[There’s] definitely a lot of joy in the kids' faces. We also raffled away some bikes, so for a lot of kids, that was a great, great, exciting thing. The kids were super interested to pick their backpacks. We let them choose what color they like, what style they like, and we had all the styles for them to grab," Tyler Swanson, a community relations representative with Wellpoint, told News 2.
The organization also held similar events across Tennessee, in anticipation of the 147 school districts statewide heading back to school this fall.
