DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — One person is dead and four others are injured following a crash that involved a deer over the weekend in DeKalb County, officials said.
The single-vehicle crash took place just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, May 11 on US 70 near Jack Hudson Road.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2017 Ford F150 was traveling west on US 70 and struck a deer.
After the collision, the Ford reportedly ran off the right side of the roadway, traveled up an embankment, overturned, and came to a final rest on its top, facing south across both lanes of US 70.
A passenger in the Ford—identified by officials as 50-year-old Jimmy Allen of Tennessee—was not wearing a seatbelt and died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, THP said the 55-year-old driver was also not wearing a seatbelt and sustained injuries in the crash. Authorities added three other passengers— identified as a 37-year-old, 46-year-old and 54-year-old—were also injured in the crash, adding it remains unknown if they were wearing seatbelts.
