GALLATIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — A plan to revamp the downtown Gallatin area passed a crucial vote in the city council this week.
Project Phoenix would take Gallatin to a whole new level, bringing residential housing to the downtown area, adding a park, relocating Gallatin's fire department headquarters, and potentially add a new city hall.
Tuesday, Aug. 5, the city approved early concept plans for Project Phoenix in a 4-1 vote.
However, Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown said the city still needs a better understanding of the developer's plans.
They're asking the developer to clarify the plans for a new city hall before anything becomes official.
Brown told News 2 she was initially against a new city hall but has become more open to the idea.
Many residents have expressed concern with the plan, but Brown said that's why city leaders are taking their time with the decision.
"I think it's natural for people to have fears and have questions. I do too, but I think that is the process; that is the reason we're going through the process. There's a lot to learn, there's a lot to know. I know that people who do business on the square are concerned, as they should be," Brown said.
Brown says they will likely make a final decision on a new city hall next year.
