Description
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Starting next month, residents will not be able to use the East Convenience Center on Richard G. Adams Drive as the facility will be upgraded.
The Nashville Department of Waste Services announced the East center will be getting some much-needed site improvements that will close the center for about eight weeks. The closure is expected to begin Sept. 8.
According to NDWS, the project is designed to provide smoother traffic flow and create a more customer-friendly experience at the center. A key part, according to Waste Services officials, is the construction of a new main entrance building, which will "significantly enhance safety for Waste Services staff and provide a more welcoming visit for customers."
Additionally, new safety railings will be installed around the drop-off points, and updated road striping will be added for smoother vehicle movement around the center.
"We're putting up safety railing, so that there will be easier access to our bins. We're creating safety zones. We're going to be adding some yellow highlighted zones to our parking lot. The overall effort is about improving our customer experience," Director of Waste Services, Tracey Thurman said.
Since opening in 2001, the East Convenience Center has not undergone a substantial overhaul, according to NDWS. The upgrade project will improve the center's infrastructure and ensure a more durable and long-lasting facility.
"We recognize the East Center’s temporary closure is an inconvenience for residents and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to enhance safety and services," NDWS Director Tracey Thurman said in a release. "These planned improvements are part of our commitment to upgrading the overall customer experience and meeting the expanded needs of our growing city."
According to a spokesperson with NDWS, the East center averages around 4,000 visitors per month. The center processes an average 195.8 tons of refuse material monthly.
While the closure continues, residents are encouraged to visit any of the other convenience center locations:
- Anderson Lane Convenience Center: 939A Anderson Ln., Madison, 37115
- Omohundro Convenience Center: 1019 Omohundro Pl., Nashville, 37210
- Ezell Pike Convenience Center: 3254 Ezell Pk., Nashville, 37211
All the centers are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Residents can also use any of the department's seven drop-off sites for recyclables. Hours and locations can be found online here.
Further, NDWS said those needed to dispose of household hazardous waste should visit the Ezell Pike Convenience Center. For electronics disposal, both the Ezell Pike and Omohundro locations are available for drop-off.
